At the end of each full training year the Center of Excellence offers its excelling players the opportunity to tryout to participate in winter showcases as a Jersey United player. These tournaments are a great opportunity for Jersey United’s qualified staff to observe each player in competition without the pressures of success and more importantly without a screaming coach guiding their every step on the side line.
Jersey United believes that one of the biggest problems in U.S youth soccer is a player’s lack of ability to improvise and think for themselves on the field. Too many players rely on their coach to yell instructions at them and don’t react to the problems that arise during the flow of the game. Winter tournament team players will be asked to play in multiple positions with guidance from their coach but will still be allowed to bring their own style to the position and team, players need to make mistakes to learn and advice from fellow peers is almost as valuable as that from their coach.
Jersey United will participate in open indoor tournaments where selected players only require an indoor pass thus keeping in line the supplementary philosophy of the Center of Excellence. Players don’t leave their current team they just supplementary train with the tournament team as an additional tool for their player development.
Selected teams will train once a-week and play in a minimum of four indoor tournaments during the months of early January to mid-March. All teams will be trained by Center of Excellence staff and will wear full Jersey United uniform.
