WAGS Results: Three Jersey United Club Teams Attend Prestigious Tournament

The Strikers had a fine weekend playing some exceptional attacking soccer in all three games. We created many chances in all 3 games with the goals coming from  Melanie Greco (4), Kim Canfield (2), Jess Narlis (1), Megan Rossomando (1), Kate Bender (1) and Sam Messina (1).  Morgan Patullo also came up with a excellent penalty kick save in the third game of the weekend against Mclean when the game was 2-0.  This was enough to deflate McLean as the Strikers went on to win 3-0 with excellent performances.  Individually and collectively it was a great way to start the U17 season.

The Rage competed well against some great NE competition. Each game posed a different problem for the girls and they reacted well and changed their style to accomodate the problem. The Rage deserved to reach the final but started out very slow and found themselves 3-0 behind after 10 minutes to a very attacking West-Mont team. After the 1st 10 minutes the game was very even and the Rage had a number of chances to score but the damage was allready done. The entire team performed well over the course of the weekend but special MVP honors goes to Cami Calafiore, Gina Dello Russo, Rima Patel and the impressive Kimmie Cook in goal.

Club Teams enjoy success at East Brunswick Labor Day Tournament

The 96-97 Gazelles were crowned champions in the U13 Girls Select Bracket of last weekends East Brunswick Labor Day Tournament.  The girls bounced back from a first game defeat to win out with only one goal scored upon them the entire weekend.  "I am extremely proud of the girls for 4 great performances throughout the weekend.  I’m looking forward to a great year and continued improvement from the team", said Coach Dan Howard.

Gazelles vs. LSTS London = 2-1 loss
Gazelles vs. Manalapan Panthers = 5-0 win
Gazelles vs. E. Brunswick Ravens = 4-0 win
Final - Gazelles vs. LSTS London = 1-0 win

The 96-97 Dragons were finalists in the U13 Boys Select Bracket of last weekends East Brunswick Labor Day Tournament.  The boys were undefeated througout the tournament with only 1 goal against and 12 goals for.  "This is a great start to the new season.  We played some great soccer that was pleasing to watch while only conceding 1 goal," said Coach James Morris

Dragons vs. Howell Vipers = 1-0 win
Dragons vs. Marlton Lightning = 6-1 win
Dragons vs. Long Island Colts = 5-0 win
Final - Dragons vs. East Brunswick Blazers = 0-0 (3-1 PK’s) loss

The Charge had a great start to the tournament. The team played great fast attacking soccer with a lot of energy all over the field. The Charge created a lot of really good opportunities in the first game to come up with a big win against Windy City.  That was all the luck the Charge would have for the rest of the weekend after dropping the final 2 games to the Penn Fusion and Albertson Fury.  Overall a very disappointing end to a bright start. A lot of positives and negatives to take out of the weekend. The results did not justify the team performances.
