ASL Bethesda Weekend Proves A Big Success For JU Teams
This weekend saw the Atlantic Soccer League’s first event of the season at the Bethesda Showcase tournament. Jersey United was represented in the U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 age groups.
All the teams played well and Director of Coaching, Dennis Jackson, said "I was very pleased with all the teams and the type of soccer they all tried to play." Jackson also added on the league itself, after his first in person view of the league, "The league lived up to all its expectations. The quality of the complex along with the exposure for our older girls was exactly what we want to provide our club members. This promises to be a exciting year for the club"
The standout performances of the weekend were from the 97/98G White U14 Girls, who went 1 win, 2 ties and 0 losses. Coach Pollard said, “the girls worked hard in the upcoming weeks for this event and jot there rewards, we played some great soccer and defended superbly”. The 94/95G Blue U17 Girls also stood out winning 2 and tying 1 and they were unlucky to not win all three. Coach Rice said, “the girls played some excellent soccer over the course of the three days, players stepped up all over the field against quality opposition. It was a great weekend and the turnout from college coaches to look at the girls was fantastic”.
Jersey United 96/97G White U15 Girls had a good weekend against quality opposition and Coach Killick added “I was very happy with the performances of the girls, as pretty much a new team we have to have games to gel and the performances I saw from individuals and the team as a whole was very encouraging”.
Jersey United 95/96G White U16 Girls played the current number 1, 2 and 3 teams in the league. Head Coach Dennis Jackson was pleased with what he saw, “for the first competitive games for the group I was very happy with the commitment and play of the girls against some very good opposition”.
Jersey United 93/94G White U18 Girls tied 2 and lost 1 of their 3 games at the event and Coach Miles with a depleted squad was very happy with his team’s performances, “the girls played some great soccer all weekend and were unlucky not to win all three games, I was very pleased with the level and style of soccer we played”.
